Fountains and waterfalls are essential to any garden pond. Beyond their decorative role, they ensure the oxygenation of water. Install a waterfall in his garden pond

The waterfall overlooks the garden pond. The water is discharged from the spring and flows to the pond. There are two types of the waterfall: the self-made waterfall with natural stones and the preformed waterfall.

1. The self-made waterfall with natural stones

To build a waterfall, create a small hillock. Seal with a tarp. Arrange the stones by simulating the creek with a garden hose. Once the water path is determined, install the conduit and connect it to the pump. If the garden pond is home to fish, avoid limestone. They change the pH of the water.

2. The preformed cascade

Easier to install, the preformed waterfall arises near the garden pond. Just connect the solar pond pump with a hose to the dedicated tips. Some models have niches for plants and decorative accessories dedicated (stones, statues ...).

Choose and install the waterfall pump

The power of a pump is determined by the desired cascade width (count 1.5 L of water/min per cm of the cascade). Flow rates vary from 2000 to 10,000 liters / hour. Favor the adjustable flow models. The pump must have a sufficient lift height (also called discharge height or water column). For a height of 3 meters, the pump delivers water up to 3 meters vertically.

Install the pump in the pond as close to the waterfall. It connects to the source by a buried pipe, sealed with mortar or hidden by the decorations of the waterfall.

Install a fountain in his garden pond

If the forms of fountains vary (simple stream of water falling in fine rain or bell, amphora or animal sculpture), the principle remains the same: a pump placed at the bottom of the pool connected by a conduit to the fountain.

Choosing and installing a water jet fountain

A water fountain falls in rain or bell. Be careful not to choose a pump too powerful if your garden is exposed to the wind. The water level would decrease. The height of the jet must not exceed the distance separating it from the edge of the garden pond. Avoid water falling on supernatant plants (lotus, nymphs, water lilies ...).

Decorative fountains (statuettes, amphorae)

Decorative fountains are very often sold in a kit with the pump and the adapted conduits. Just install the fountain and pump and adjust the flow rate.

Maintain fountains and waterfalls

An obstructed pump causes a decrease in the flow of water. Unscrew the nozzle from the water supply and clean it. If the cascade can flow continuously, it is advisable to periodically cut the jet fountains of eau. Avant the first frost, drain conduits and remove the water pump.
